Madame Yuzu is a premium ice cream and sorbet brand based in Sydney, Australia. They strive to deliver Japanese-inspired flavours to people in Australia.
My client was after someone with a strong understanding of both Western and Japanese culture. As a native Japanese person with long-term experience living in Western countries, I was appointed to create a comprehensive identity for this East-Meets-West brand.
The inspiration for this project came from my knowledge of Japanese culture and experience in Western countries. To create the design concept, I mixed traditional and modern Japanese aesthetics to bring fresh and edgy visuals that would be easily accessible to Westerners.
This principle stems from the iconic character Geisha, who does not like to be caught up in the tradition and act her role in her own style in the modern society.
The logo was hand-drawn with a Japanese brush which I tried to infuse with a Japanese ‘kawaii’ style. The packaging features a Geisha icon with handwritten Japanese kanji in the background.
